Triple Gold Olympic Medalist, Matt Ryan, has joined the team of seasoned and highly skilled professional coaches at NEGS. This eventing superstar will be teaching and mentoring cross-country and show jumping students at the NEGS Equestrian Centre in Armidale.

Head Coach, Rachelle Hirst, said “We are very proud of our NEGS girls and are very excited to give them the opportunity to work with Triple Olympic Gold Medalist, Matt Ryan on a regular basis. Matt brings an enormous amount of experience and expertise to the NEGS coaching team. It is an exciting opportunity for our NEGS girls to develop their skills and knowledge to achieve their riding goals“.

Matt is no stranger to NEGS having previously conducted sell out clinics at the Equestrian Centre, and in a nice piece of equestrian history his two gold-medal winning horses were both bred by Australia's first female Olympic equestrian competitor, and NEGS Old Girl, Bridget “Bud” Hyem.  The NEGS Equestrian Centre Co-ordinator, Amy Layton, says that thanks to the recent pandemic NEGS was able to secure Matt as a coach. “It’s a little Golden lining to COVID-19 for NEGS, which means we are very fortunate to secure a high calibre professional like Matt Ryan, who would otherwise be in the UK”.

NEGS is a boarding school located in Armidale, northern NSW providing an educational experience for both boys and girls in Junior School and a tailored learning environment for young women in Senior School. The NEGS Equestrian Centre boasts world class facilities and is the premier Equestrian School in Australia
