NEGS News - Term 4 Final

2022 has certainly been a year to remember!

Some personal highlights include:

  • The Inverell Show
  • Equestrian event at Coonabarabran
  • NEGS Autumn Fair
  • Hiking Cathedral Rock
  • Hosting the Old Girls Long Lunch
  • Celebrating RUOK? Day
  • Whole of school Colour Run
  • Senior school Standtall event Tamworth

Congratulations to all students on their achievements this year. As I frequently tell you, you bring to this world things no one else can.

Thank you to the parents, friends and staff for welcoming me into NEGS and working alongside of me this year. Together we make a team. This year we have made considerable progress in enhancing respectful relationships within and amongst the school community. I look forward to continuing this work in 2023 and extending community partnerships to ensure we strive for quality and diversity in our product to add to the quality, relevance and diversity of a NEGS education.

‘Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value’

My warmest wishes to you all this festive season.

As mentioned on Speech Day, we are thrilled to begin, in 2023, the Boarding House Upgrade. It will be a staged project and will commence with White House. The plan is to complete a refit of the bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas. To enable this project to start, our Year 5 to 10 Boarders in 2023 will be housed in Kirkwood House. The Year groups will be split and have their own specific common areas. We look forward to starting this project, to ensure our boarding facilities meet the needs of a modern-day boarding community.

2022 Speech Day

Thank you to Dr Olivia James, class of 1995, for returning to NEGS to be the 2022 Guest Speaker.  She spoke on the benefits of failure, and how failing forward, as she terms it, gives you the opportunity to pursue a different, and often better, path. Dr James especially delved into the phrase, ‘life happens for you, not to you.’

2022 The NEGS Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

We congratulate all the Year 12, 2022 Graduates for their outstanding HSC results.

The Equestrian Centre would like to congratulate all of our students who received Equestrian awards at the recent sports assembly. There were two Yr 12 students who missed out on receiving these awards at the time, and I would like to take a minute to recognise their contribution to their chosen discipline.

Charlotte Jacobson has also been awarded the Highest Achieving Dressage Rider. Charlotte competed successfully this year in Elementary Dressage and co-captained the NSW Team at National Interschool in 2022.

Bridgette Cadzow has also been awarded the Highest Achieving Campdraft Rider. Bridgette has had many successes in campdrafting both locally and in the Northern Territory.

Congratulations girls on all your hard work in 2022.

As we have many many girls competing nearly every weekend in a huge range of disciplines, there is no way I am able to keep track of students' results to make sure they make it to the newsletter. Next year, our Equestrian Centre leadership team will be taking over some aspects of the newsletter, giving an update on what each discipline has been up to. Can I please ask students and their families to send results through to their discipline leaders so they can add them to their fortnightly contribution to the newsletters. Results can also be sent to address and I will make sure they are included. If families were able to add a photo that would be even better!

RM Equestrian Centre ODE

Three Senior NEGS girls, Bianca, Ruby, and Vanessa travelled to Toowoomba, Queensland, to compete at the RM Equestrian Centre ODE. We were a bit concerned on our arrival as a heavy rain shower made the grounds very sticky and wet, with a lineup of bogged trucks and floats greeting us on arrival. The horses grew a few inches in a warm-up with black mud sticking to everything, however, vaseline on the hooves saved the day!

With a strong turnout and quality dressage tests, we were all placed in the top ten and continued to stay there after our show jumping rounds. We finished the afternoon with some volunteering and cheering on the last of the showjumpers.

With the sun setting, we walked the beautifully manicured cross-country course bemused at the cute signs stating beware of crocodiles, dinosaurs, turtles, and rabbits at play.

With the early light shining brightly at 4.30am, we were wide awake Sunday morning and ready to walk the cross country for the fifth time! Packed up and horses at the ready we found ourselves with plenty of time to ponder our day.

On cross country, Vanessa had 0 cross country penalties, placing her 3rd in the Junior 1* with only 50.9 penalties overall, Ruby having 24 cross country penalties and placing 2nd in the Junior 95cm on 59.6 overall penalties and was also awarded the ‘Highest Placing OTTB’ in the 95cm class. Finally, Bianca had 37.2 overall penalties, placing her in 4th with Jackson River and 7th on Red Vicking with 42.5 overall penalties in the Junior 80cm.

We represented NEGS with pride and enthusiasm and as always enjoyed our time with our horses. We thank all our support crews, AKA mums, fathers, grans and mascot Bluie.

We will definitely be back to support RM Equestrian ODE, and the very supportive and welcoming committee.

Our show riders had a busy end to 2022 with two Grand National qualifiers held back to back.

Six of us headed to Grafton for the Northern NSW Hack Championships.  The following weekend was the NSW Country Hack Championships held at Dubbo.

It was well worth all the travel with outstanding results from both shows.
